Navigate by your own North Star.

When we attempt something that might take a bit more effort than other things—like making changes to go imperfectly green—it helps to have something to keep us on track, something like a beacon when the way gets dark. A North Star. Have you discovered your North Star?

Your North Star is what or who guides you, moves your life forward, excites beyond measure, and inspires you to (sometimes) do the hard things. Your North Star will help you stand your ground, roll up your sleeves, and illuminate your path.

Maybe it’s your mission. Maybe it’s your kid or kids. Whatever it may be, it’s what brings you clarity, gives you purpose and ultimately shifts your consciousness so that you will see beyond the horizon of your daily decisions. The companies you buy from, the conversations you entertain, the movements you participate in (or begin), the trash you toss, the truths you uphold, the actions you take, the routines and rituals you hold dear, the shifts you make… they all matter.

And when you have a North Start, you know you matter. ⠀

Get curious. What could it be for you? Find it, and you will begin to realize (or embolden) your reason for being here, which you can see as a heavy responsibility or a great possibility. You have a better idea of where you’re headed and things feel possible, maybe even probable, when that star of yours is guiding you.

these two North Stars

My North Star is my children, two barefoot beach kids who take life by storm on the daily. One is our black hole, the other a supernova, little opposites that coexist intrinsically and perfectly in our home, and both remind me how absolutely miraculous it is to be here on this Earth together. What a gift to share this life with the two of them, seeing it yet again through their eyes. It’s no wonder that Earth Friends was born from becoming their mom, and the work I put into it has expanded into an organization who’s North Star is all children on this planet.

We love a good bonus, so here it is:

Find the humans who have similar North Stars as you do. Connect and collaborate with them to share resources and knowledge to create even more impact.

If you haven’t guessed, that is what Sydney and I have found in each other.
